Lockdown #5 is over and we are allowed to leave the house at any time to do anything we want any number of times. My biggest concern about going back to the office tomorrow (I work from home on a Wednesday to assist with the kinder run) was that my new camera was expected to arrive tomorrow. It’s always a pain in the proverbial when you miss a delivery and have to wrangle them to come back, go to a different location or heaven forbid have to collect it yourself. But upon checking my tracking information I was pleasantly surprised to see that the package is “With delivery courier”, thus changing the delivery date to today! Huzzah!

Keeping the talk photographic, there is a great article over at Petapixel showing some photographs of the Nikon Professional Services gear room at the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo this year. Contrary to what some believe, this is not what my house looks like (I wish). Hundreds of top of top-of-the-line cameras, lenses and accessories and access to Nikon engineers for service and repairs.

[Just before lunch] Well, hello there new friend!

Welcome to the family! I’ve taken one quick portrait of my wife with you so far and I’m already blown away with the detail this camera produces. Tonight I will sit down and go through the menu system customising it to the way I photograph. Then I’ll go through the other three to make sure they all act the same.

I am looking forward to maybe taking it out this weekend and seeing what I can photograph.

As for the published photograph, I may not survive publishing this but I seriously like the image … And not just because it is a photograph of my wife’s butt. I love how it captures a moment during our walk and the position of her feet and the slight angle the dog is. Normally, having your main subject in the middle of the frame is frowned upon but I’m a firm believer in learning the rules … and then breaking them.

I like how the position of my wife, the dog, and even the out-of-focus car help balance the frame nicely and the symmetry of the path pushes the eye towards the centre. So in my mind, a successful image all around.
