Howdy,

Here’s another from last Sunday’s photo walk. R was running around enjoying the freedom recently allowed.

Tomorrow’s post is a very special one. It will mark 100 posts for the blog and even more impressive to me, 100 posts in a row.

So today’s post will be a quickie as I need to prepare for might be a long one tomorrow.

I pretty much spent the day thinking how much I can sell my mostly untouched liver as Nikon have just announced the Z9 pro-body mirrorless camera. And, people of all genders, after watching an hour-long video from one of my favourite reviewers (mainly because he uses the camera in real-life situations and never holds back if he doesn’t like something), this is the camera I’ve been waiting for. The auto-focus alone is worth the *muffled* dollar price tag.

Before my long term readers throw their collective arms up to the sky and say, “you’ve only just purchased a new camera” … Yes. Yes, I have. And that camera is not going anywhere. I will happily sell the other three though to help me fund the Z9. As a working photographer, I need at least two camera bodies to allow for two lenses available at any time (very important at weddings) and most importantly, for backup in case one camera fails or is damaged (touch all the wood I can reach).

So my two z6 cameras and my D810 will probably go to help fund the Z9.

Oh, and another thing. Despite many incredible improvements under the hood, the Z9 is the closest to the file size to the D850 which is perfect for multiple camera photography. At the moment have four cameras ranging from 26MP to 45MP meaning I have a wide range of file sizes when handing over the photos to clients. The Z9 comes in at 45MP, just like the D850.

In a nutshell, the Z9 is the mirrorless version of the D850 in a pro body with all the improvements in speed and processing under the hood. Even M was impressed when watching the video (and that’s not easy to do).

I’ve ranted enough, I need to figure out how to fund this necessary piece of equipment. I have a couple of weddings coming up so funds will be funnelled there and I of course have three cameras to sell (2 if M takes a Z6).

Do I really need a car?

Speaking of cars, I spent two hours waiting for a COVID test for Miss R as her nose has been running non-stop for three days. She handled it like a trooper though.

Now to wait for the results.

I’ll see you in the next post for the big 100. I already have a photograph planned.

Richard
