Hello!

Back in the distant dark ages and as a means to have a project that would see me through each day, I did what’s known as the 365 Day project. That is a photo a day for 365 days.

Me being who I am, I took it to the extreme and joined the Flickr group 365 Days and took a self-portrait every day for 365 days. Most are still online except for around 18 that involved my old Army uniform. The Army very politely asked me to take those ones down (well after the project was completed though). The year captured a complete eight-month relationship as well as a 50-day streak of self-portraits based on Beatles songs titles.

Looking back on these photos, I find myself cringing a lot but I’m still happy I completed the full year. My brother also took on and completed a similar project.
In 2022 I am going to do it again. But this time, it will be black and white photographs.

Why am I doing this?

Because a video I watched on the power of black and white imagery really hit home that this is my favourite medium with which to work. I’ve watched the video probably ten times now and it encourages me more and more to do it.

So, having published this blog post I am asking you all to hold me accountable.

I’m still in the planning stages and the biggest thing I need to sort out in my mind is:

Do I have to photograph every day?

If I take more than one on a day, can I bank them up and publish one per day? If this is the case, my preference for publishing will always be towards a photograph I took on that day.

This is the approach I want to take but I’m not sure how that will resonate with my followers. Would you rather see me try to take a photo every day or are you happy with me publishing a new photograph every day providing it was taken during 2022? Please let me know with a comment below or via the Facebook Group and I’ll go with whatever the majority says.

Either way, welcome along on my journey.

Have a great day and I’ll see you in the next post.

Richard
