Hello!

I added another appointment to yesterday’s list after posting. This morning was my annual trip to the optometrists to make sure my eyes aren’t succumbing to dreaded diabetes (Type II)! Thankfully, my eye health has not altered in the last 3 years meaning my eyes are healthy and more importantly, I do not need to fork out for three pairs of new glasses. I do have to go back for a new diabetes-related test they’ve just introduced, but that needs someone to come with me as my eyesight will be affected for a short period after the test. Sounds just peachy! I’ve been told that they are not concerned about anything as all appearances show my eyes to be in excellent health, they just like to run it on diabetic patients to be 100% sure.

Entry number 6 in the 365 Black & White Challenge is from one of our fundraising shoots for the dog. It also highlights something I’ve always known. I like to shoot eyes! Especially with my 105mm Portrait lens.

The challenge so far has proven even more difficult than I imagined as I’m trying to create magic out of subjects I really have no strong feelings towards. I mean, road signs are great, especially when they immediately contradict themselves, but give me a set of eyes and a chance to draw emotion from them and I am hooked! And the magic of the 105 lens wide open at an aperture of 1.4 brings out the beauty in the subject’s eyes even more.

The problem with the COVID numbers being so high makes it difficult to organise photoshoots meaning I’m forced to take photos of whatever I can find around me. I have a handful in the Candidates folder I can turn to, but I’m not madly in love with any of them. And yes, that’s important to me.

Have a great day and I’ll see you in the next post.

Richard
