Hello!

Entry number 103 for the 2022 365 Black & White Challenge is from a roller-derby training night.

2022 365 Black & White Challenge – 103/365

Tuesday

I messaged the following to my wife yesterday …

“I’m having a mid-life crisis.”

As is her usual supportive way, her comment during a video chat later in the day was, “You’ve passed mid-life.”

Thanks sweetheart, I love you too.

But anyway, my crisis involved adding up the trade-in value of my entire Nikon camera range and figuring out that I had enough to swap over to a competing brand with two high-end cameras and a two-lens (both top of the range) starting setup. Although I’d be dropping from six lenses to two, those two would allow me to cover my upcoming weddings, portraits and other events. I could build up my lens collection from future earnings.

Let me interrupt the flow to bring you a message from our sponsor, Me! Did you love the photo? Each photograph in the 2022 365 Black & White Challenge is made available as a single signed limited edition print. If you are interested, you can purchase the print at the Shop for only $36.50 (including free postage to anywhere in the world). If it’s not there then someone beat you to it! I thank you for your support of my photography and this website.

Now, as impulsive as I can be, even I’m not one to just up and jump ship like that. First I need to get one of the new cameras in my hands and preferably have a couple of hours with it. But as much as I’m hanging out for the Nikon Z9 (currently slated for an August delivery), I am sorely tempted by the chance to have two identical cameras each with incredible auto-focus and hard-drive smashing 61-megapixel sensors. Yes, every time I go click, that’s another 134 Mb added to my storage. But the detail in the images would be bordering on medium format … ok, I’m drooling. I need to focus.

I really need to do the pros and cons for this as it’s not an insignificant step.

More on this later.

Oh, and today (the day you are reading this) is my last day at this job.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for your time and your attention! I will see tomorrow you for the next post.

Richard
