Entry number 91 for the 2022 365 Black & White Challenge is from a headshot photoshoot I completed recently.

2022 365 Black & White Challenge – 91/365

When I first started this blog, I was not planning on featuring any photographs that involved money changing hands. It was going to be all about my photography. Thinking about this, I have come to the conclusion that if the photograph was taken with the same enthusiasm and passion that my personal work is, then it’s fine.

Headshot photography is not the most exciting of genres to shoot. It’s just not. But I wanted to knock this shoot out of the park (as I do with all my shoots) so as I drove to meet the client, I was brainstorming ways to improve the experience for both myself and Bec, my client.

My speciality has always been grabbing moments. Although I am blessed with the ability to pose a person down to the fingernails if required, my favourite method of shooting is always anticipating a moment and grabbing it.

I use the word “anticipating” for a reason. If you see something happen in your camera viewfinder, the moment has already gone. In the vernacular of typical DSLR/Film cameras, you never see the actual moment because the shutter has opened and the mirror has lifted momentarily blocking your view. Thus you have to anticipate the moment.

Apologies for the nerdy photo digression.

This shoot was a lot of fun as I tweaked my method of shooting headshots to be less posey, more spontaneous moments. There were a lot of laughs and I was thrilled to receive this email from Bec last night: “OMG! Thank you so much! They’re AWESOME! Wow wow wow wow wow”, I believe the shift in my approach worked.

Here is the testimonial she provided:

And how amazing does Bec look?

Let me interrupt the flow to bring you a message from our sponsor, Me! Did you love the photo? Each photograph in the 2022 365 Black & White Challenge is made available as a single signed limited edition print. If you are interested, you can purchase the print at the Shop for only $36.50 (including free postage to anywhere in the world). If it’s not there then someone beat you to it! I thank you for your support of my photography and this website.

I can truly say I enjoyed the headshot session. And that’s not something I’ve ever said before. And there is just something really magical about the Nikon D850/70-200mm combination I’ll never get sick of.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for your time and your attention! I will see tomorrow you for the next post.
