Hello!
Entry number 45 for the 2022 365 Black & White Challenge is a photograph from the 2022 Australian Open.
The Photograph:
During February, I am selecting the oldest photo from my “Candidates” folder and if I still love it, posting that. If the love has gone (which for one today it had), they get deleted.
This is one of those annoying times I tell you to view this one on a large monitor and not on your phone. The reason it made the cut is that it was a single shot (not spray and pray motor drive) and the ball is not only in sharp focus, but the word “Dunlop” is visible. Ok, maybe I’m the only one who gets excited over that, but it’s my website, so that’s Ok.
The Blog:
So that was a fun phone call. I did laugh when I saw their number on my phone having written a rather to the point email on their store’s website.
You know the world has changed when the brand new camera you’ve ordered won’t be arriving until June to August.
The reasons include COVID (of course), the current worldwide chip shortage (not the hot kind) and the number of pre-orders in the Nikon Australia System. Apparently, they ordered two-hundred hundred last month and received five.
Options include:
- Sticking it out. We’ve paid 80% of the invoice and although I can get it back easily enough (this was verified on the call), I’d only blow it all (well, my portion of it), on useless crap.
- Reconsider my camera choices and get another D850, order a 35 mm 1.4 lens and a big pelican case and custom foam insert for all my gear from these guys.
I’ve been putting in some serious thought into changing the lenses I use at weddings to something more simplified and this might be a moment I could do it. But then again, when am I going to have that amount of un-budgeted funds available to put towards the new camera?
I think, as much as I like the sound of what’s behind door number two, I’m going to stick it out. August isn’t that far away, right?
Bit of a “what’s going around my head at the moment” post today, sorry.
Have a great day and I’ll see you in the next post.
Richard
