Hello!
Entry number 56 for the 2022 365 Black & White Challenge is a photograph from a local park.

The PHOTOGRAPH:
In February, I am selecting the oldest black and white photo from my “Candidates” folder and if I still love it, posting that. If the love has gone, it gets deleted.
This image is from a series of photographs taken during a play date for my daughter and one of her school friends. The 105mm portrait lens came out specifically to challenge me as I was not planning on taking any portraits with it. I was looking for mundane things and trying to take a non-mundane photograph of them.
This photograph nearly didn’t make it, but when it came to deleting it, I just couldn’t do it. I like the light falling onto the bark and the way that the black and white treatment enhances the different tones.
PS: Did you love the photo? Each photograph in the 2022 365 Black & White Challenge is made available as a single limited edition print. If you are interested, click here to purchase this print for only $36.50. I thank you for your support of my photography and this website.
The BLOG:
By now we’ve all heard of Wordle, right?
To quote the great source of most truths, Wikipedia, “
Wordle is a web-based word game developed by Josh Wardle. Players have six attempts to guess a five-letter word, with feedback given for each guess in the form of coloured tiles indicating when letters match or occupy the correct position.”
I’ve always seen it as a variation of the old game Mastermind and like most of the world have come to enjoy playing it daily. Wordle has a single daily solution, with all players attempting to guess the same word and it was a real stroke of genius only allowing one word per day, thus ensuring a continual stream of players every day. The other genius move was allowing the results to be shared in a simple graphical way, allowing those who knew what these cryptic images meant to see how you went but most importantly, making those who had no clue, enquire.
What I have really enjoyed are the variations that have sprung up since the game went viral. Every day I play four versions (and always in the same order):
- The original, Wordle.
- Worldle. The variation where you have to guess the country based on shape and letter clues. If you have an incorrect guess, it tells you the distance and direction from the centre of the guessed country to the correct country.
- Wordawazzle. The Australian version. Previous words have included QLDER, SMOKO, DUBBO and BRUCE.
- Quordle (my favourite). You have nine turns to guess all four words with each guess being applied to each of the four games within the game.
I like the way that these games force me to slow down and think. This is something I need to do more often. I also need to sleep more, but that’s another post.
If you’ve never played before, go out and enjoy the start of a new daily routine.
Oh, one last thing. In a world where spoilers run rampant, I’ve been constantly amazed by how tight-lipped the Wordle community is. Especially how the entire world is trying for the exact same word every day. Go, team!
As always, join the Facebook Group if you haven’t yet, comment below, have a great day and I look forward to typing at you in the next post.
