#196 – March 24, 2022 (83/365)

It’s been a week for music theory nerding out.

Firstly, on Monday, my cousin did a Twitch stream which showed him talking about as well as playing through several of Bach’s A Well-Tempered Clavier Preludes and fugues, on a real harpsichord. I had the stream going at work and it was a very pleasant background for the last hour of work. 

The highlight for me was when he started tearing apart the music explaining what Bach was probably thinking when he wrote certain sections. My favourite quote was “This is where Bach threw down the gauntlet!”.

Later that night I was playing the guitar with my mate (he was on piano) as a little duo thing we have going on. Many times we stop to figure out how the chords work in songs and digress into a fabulous discussion of chord progressions and how clever composers can be.

There are a couple of YouTube channels I’m subscribed to which are nothing but very talented next-level musos tearing apart chords, phrases and intervals and discussing music theory in great and overwhelming detail. The two YouTube channels are Adam Neely and Charles Cornell and I’ve lost many an hour over the years diving into their incredible brains.

I love music. I love playing music and I especially love the theory behind it all.
