Hello!

Entry number 97 for the 2022 365 Black & White Challenge is from a previous wedding I’ve been dealing with this week.

2022 365 Black & White Challenge – 97/365

I’ve been re-editing a wedding for a lovely couple who lost their files during a recent cross-state move. Here’s a lesson to back up your files people!

Wednesday

The wedding was in October 2015 and I was pleased to find I didn’t cringe too much whilst looking through the photos. Editing software has come a long way in that time as I was able to edit more photos than I originally delivered!

Let me interrupt the flow to bring you a message from our sponsor, Me! Did you love the photo? Each photograph in the 2022 365 Black & White Challenge is made available as a single signed limited edition print. If you are interested, you can purchase the print at the Shop for only $36.50 (including free postage to anywhere in the world). If it’s not there then someone beat you to it! I thank you for your support of my photography and this website.

There is a lesson here for everyone to make sure you have backups (multiple if possible) of all of your digital photographs. I guarantee my clients that I will have photos available for 12 months after delivery and to be honest, they were lucky I found a dump folder of all their photos as I no longer have the original delivered files.

Again, back up your photos! My wife and I share a four drive NAS (Network-attached storage) device with 36 TB of storage. And if one of those drives dies, when a replacement drive is inserted, the other 3 drives can rebuild the data on the new drive. But for me, that’s still not enough. I’m in the process of moving all my delivered files to the cloud, where for a small monthly fee I have almost immediate access.

If only I treated my personal photos like this. Maybe that’s a future project. Although having said that, I do have a high-resolution backup of all photographs from this website in the cloud along with my client files.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for your time and your attention! I will see tomorrow you for the next post.

Richard
